What is Somatic Movement?
Movement that is practiced explicitly for the purpose of developing a richer sense of yourself. What does it feel like to be you? What can you learn about yourself by noticing your own movement? There are many different disciplines that fall under this definition; what is common about them is the focus on the subjective experience of the mover instead of an objective goal (sports), a culturally prescribed aesthetic (dance), or an intangible ideal (yoga). However, somatic movement helps enrich these activities greatly.Helping Katrina's alignment while seated at the desk: sensing into 'yielding' relationship with support, Individuating the jaw and cranium through 'mouthing' and 'head-tail" developmental patterns, playing with gravity
- "Development is not a linear process but occurs in overlapping waves. Because each previous stage underlies and supports each successive stage...returning to basic patterns can re-pattern our responses and establish more efficient nervous pathways to support our movement."-Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen

If one of these most clearly resonates with you - or if it reminds you of you as a child - please request it in the questionnaire during booking. If you would rather just place your trust in the process more generally, other questions in the same form will help me tailor a session for you, which will mix modalities more freely. If you have more questions, use the contact form to schedule a call or request a free 25-minute trial session.

In 2022, I completed the ACC Somatic Movement Education program, a 560-hour pedagogy-focused immersion into Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals with additional content from the traditions of Authentic Movement, Bodymind Centering, and practices from my teacher Ellen Bartell. I continued my studies with the School for Bodymind Centering @ Moving Within in Oregon and at the Whole Movement Center here in Austin. I hold certificates from Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies, ISMETA, ACC, and Moving Within.
